Between a body in motion and the moving gaze, tension and emotion are at work, the essence of which for me is both absolutely choreographic and purely cinematic.
Janet on the Roof transcribes a state of shock that ends up impregnating the fabric of our lives, to become the background of our existence.
Janet on the Roof proposes the paradoxical, simultaneous experience of disappearance and appearance. The body, in tension through constant effort between evanescence and revelation, will end up being swallowed by the steady and inevitable emergence of the wall: a pure form, rectangular, black and impenetrable. The living are no more, all that’s left is the impassive material of an inanimate and solid form.

After Janet on the roof, a choreographic work by Pierre Pontvianne, premiered 5 July 2016 during the Festival des 7 collines – Comédie de Saint-Étienne CDN.

FILMING JANET ON THE ROOF
Between a body in motion and the moving gaze, a tension and emotion are at work, the essence of which for me is both absolutely choreographic and purely cinematic.
JANET ON THE ROOF proposes the paradoxical, simultaneous experience of disappearance and appearance. The body, in tension through constant effort between evanescence and revelation, will end up being swallowed up by the steady and inevitable emergence of the wall: a pure form, rectangular, black and impenetrable. The living are no more, all that’s left is the impassive material of an inanimate and solid form.
For my part, it is thus a question of capturing the effort that lies in (retinal) persistence through the cinematic image of this body that will soon be no more. This sensitive observational approach brings to mind the techniques used in animal documentaries. It is with this same acuity that I wish to film this body caught in the imperceptible shifts and constant transformations of a shattering choreographic poem, in search of the impossible…
Trained in acting at the ENSATT (Dramatic Arts Conservatory in Lyon), he was part of the permanent troupe at the Théâtre National Populaire (TNP) in Villeurbanne from 2004-2010.
In 2005 he created the company LES 7 SOEURS, for which he staged two performances, Harold Pinter Club and l’Oracle de Saint-Fox. As a theatrical author he wrote Premières Armes (2007, directed by Olivier Borle at the TNP in Villeurbanne), I-A (2017, directed by Olivier Borle at the Théâtre des Clochards Célestes in Lyon).
He also studied script writing with Jean-Marie Roth. And wrote several feature-length scripts including Hors Série, with Bruno Darmon and Jean-Marie Roth and La Jeune Fille Violaine with Coralie Dedykere. He has also written and directed short films, a mini-series of 12 episodes entitled La Grande Cause (2007-2010, with projections at the Théâtre de l’´Elysée in Lyon), an experimental film titled What a Morning (2014) as well as six music videos for the album Orphans of the black sun, by the group MÜTTERLEIN (under the pseudonym Aimée Lügenmund, 2016).
Since 2012 he has collaborated with the Company Maguy Marin, first as director for the film nocturnes, inspired by the eponymous choreographic work and also as a performer for restagings of the pieces May B and Umwelt. In 2013 he created the solo Singspiele in collaboration with Maguy Marin and Benjamin Lebreton, in which he performed and created the sound score (Théâtre Garonne).
In 2015 he initiated LA KATET CIE, in which he staged the piece Juan (TNP). He also staged Hamlet-Machine in collaboration with Philippe Vincent (2016, Théâtre du Point du Jour). He is also one of the nine authors of passion(s), the first artistic laboratory of RAMDAM, UN CENTRE D’ART, proposed by Florence Girardon (2016, Montpellier Danse). He proposed a second lab, Nuaj Live Tribute (2018, Festival Antigel) with Marion Leclercq, founder of the group Mütterlein.
In 2018, he directed the documentary Maguy Marin – L’Urgence d’Agir (Naia Productions), as well as the cinematic adaptation of the work May B. He also wrote the text Sarabande and performed in the piece MASS by Pierre Pontvianne.
